Stuff We Like

Oscar is fascinated with warning signs and symbolic messages and has a particular interest in the circle-slash type signs. He sees these signs EVERYWHERE; on the road, on household products, at the playground, and he wants us to explain the signs to him. These signs usually make sense to him without a lot of explanation, but we are often stuck trying to interpret information that is beyond his comprehension and we have to improvise. For example, at the park there is a no alcoholic beverages sign that he believes says “Don’t Spill Your Beer”. He and I were at Mariposa Ice Cream the other day where he spotted a picture of George W with a slash through it. After he asked me what it meant I said, “No President Bush” and he of course said “Why?” and then I was stumped. Where to begin, right?
This weekend, he took his sign reading hobby a step further and now he is a sign writer. He got Brian to print up a bunch of blank circle-slash signs. Then he would dictate to any willing adult what he wanted drawn inside. Please to enjoy a sample of his collection:

I wanted to share a couple of other things in the Stuff We Like category:
1. The movie Into the Wild
We watched this about a week ago and it has been on my mind ever since. Such a remarkable story, I’m probably going to read the book. I hate to read books after seeing their film versions, but from what I understand the book should be pretty satisfying anyway. Mom & Dad – Hal Holbrook has a plum role in this, you’d love it.
2. Green tea. It is now a part of my morning routine.

I think there needs to be more signs posted about moms jumping on kids.
I just watched Into the Wild and loved it. It was such a great story, told in a way that really gave insight into what the main character’s motivations were. Mr. Holbrook was amazing and deserved the Oscar nod…I can’t remember if he won it or not.
I am starting to wonder if Oscar owns any pants. Or shorts, or even a skirt. Is it all under-roos all the time?
