Bleeding Heart

Oscar was troubled by something he learned at the zoo today. Inside the reptile house there is a display case with snakeskin boots, jackets, and other stuff. There is also a sign that warns people about how devastating these fashions are to many reptile species and reminds us not to purchase those products. Oscar is very into signs and wanted me to read this sign to him. I told him what it said and he has been deeply concerned about the snakes ever since.
“Why do they want to kill the snakes?”
“Are the snakes at the zoo going to be killed?”
“Why do they want the snakes for their shoes?”
Poor Oscar! I sort of wish I had revised the sign information, but know that it is actually a good lesson for the little guy. He put some money in a donation box at the zoo today “so they don’t kill any more snakes.” It is pretty amazing that he learned about this on Earth Day.
Speaking of Earth Day, I’ve switched us from paper napkins to cloth. I’m already doing so much laundry, I can’t imagine the napkins are going to noticed much.
