Oscar was supposed to be sleeping a few minutes ago when I heard all kinds of ruckus and music coming from his room. I opened the door to check in on him and saw him standing in the middle of the room holding a teddy bear. He said to me,
“I want to dance, Momma.”
So [...]

Oscar told a Knock Knock joke that really impressed me. All of his prior Knock Knocks were either taught to him by us or nonsense that he put together himself. I believe that this is his first original joke and think it is pretty ingenious, surely you’ll agree:
Knock Knock
Who’s there?
Strawberry
Strawberry who?

Last year Grandma Toki gave me a random Oriental lily plant that was likely one of those flowering plants you buy at the florist that may as well be a cut flower. You know…the plant usually gets disposed of as soon as the blooms die. I had a little space in my mish-mash flower bed [...]

Laurel’s continuing to make developmental strides and I wanted to document some of the biggies here:

Oscar has been a thumb sucker ever since he was first able to navigate his hand to his mouth. His standard "comfort position" is with his right thumb in his mouth (with index finger hooked over nose) while he pulls on his hair with his left hand.
This is his go-to position anytime that he’s [...]

The last set of photos that I wanted to share on the blog are from our picnic at Calaveras Big Trees State Park. Calaveras County is not only home to jumping frogs but also Sierra Redwood trees. The Sierra Redwoods are the largest trees in the world and to see a tree with a trunk [...]

My parents live in the same house that I grew up in and it is a very special home. There’s a creek that runs through the side of the property and the house is situated at the bottom of a sloping field. The house is arranged with lovely views of the field from the living [...]

Like I said in my previous post, we’ve just returned from a Frog Jump holiday. I grew up in Murphys, a small town located in Calaveras County. Calaveras County is known for hosting a frog jump competition during the county fair in honor of a short story by Mark Twain called “The Celebrated Jumping Frog [...]
