The Carnival Accident

We’re just back from a whirlwind trip to Calaveras County to visit family and go to the Frog Jump. We had a wonderful time and did tons of stuff that will be written about soon. Unfortunately, this happened. Fortunately, it looks as though the most seriously injured are doing ok and us Bagley-DeHamer-Schulz’s were nowhere near the accident. My niece and nephew were on that ride earlier in the day, however, and that gives us all a scary-lucky feeling that has us counting our blessings.
Those midway contraptions and carnival workers already give us a little nervous shiver and now this has happened. Here’s the question, though–how do you turn down your kids when they see those rides? Do we prevent our kids from going on these rides? Certainly more kids are injured riding bikes and swimming in backyard pools, but it may be that people aren’t willing to take the risk on those rides anymore. Maybe the rides are a thing of the past? I wonder how soon I’ll let Oscar onto one of those things.
