More From Oregon
Aug 24th, 2008 by Anna
Our good buddy, Carrie, has already written about the second aspect of our Oregon trip, but I had a little bit more to share. Seeing Carrie, Tony, & their daughter was simply delightful. We had a wonderful time playing and talking as well as exploring the Edgefield resort together.
My friend, Shanna, recommended that we stay at the Edgefield. I’m so glad that we took her advice. The Edgefield is a restored turn of the century compound outside of Portland. There are guest rooms in a three story main house surrounded by fabulous gardens and out buildings which feature all kinds of food, drink, and entertainment. There was tons of space for the kids to run and play, and we made use of that space even though it was rainy much of our visit.
I just love being inside historic buildings. I also love that there are interests focused on restoring these places and making them available for the public to enjoy. In San Diego we have the new residental and commercial development on old Navy property, now called “Liberty Station”. Just last week we met a friend for dinner at a restaurant inside one of the covered promenades and wound up relaxing by a garden fountain for the longest time. The Presidio in San Francisco is another repurposed place that I can’t get enough of.
A while back I discovered a bunch of Urban Exploration websites. I am fascinated but not nearly brave enough to experience this kind of thing firsthand. The best location I learned about is the Gary Methodist Church. Apparently there is an interest in making part of this site a ruin garden open to the public. That’s something that would actually get me to consider visiting Indiana.
Anyhoo…we didn’t get many photos during our stay at the Edgefield. Something to do with the fact that we were traveling with the kids affected our interest in picking up the camera (A million thanks go to my mom for making the trip with us…it would have been a nightmare without her!). Here are the few good shots of our crew:

Cool, a photo of you looking right at the camera. Hello there from long ago.
