Happy Birthday to Oscar! We celebrated his first ever birthday party with friends (vs the family stuff we’ve done in the past) yesterday. We splurged on a party at an indoor playground where there was lots for the kids to do and staff to handle all of the party stuff (setting tables, cutting the cake, [...]

Last Saturday night, Oscar, Clara, & I braved the wilds in our backyard. We pitched a tent, unrolled our sleeping bags, and slept outside. It was #24 on the list, after all, so you knew I was going to do it, right? I’m one of those people who never sleeps well unless I’m in my [...]

A ghost and a Star Wars guy I got the ghost costume on Etsy. I just LOVE Etsy. The last several purchases I’ve made online have come from that site. Oscar’s costume was all stuff we had around the house. I was very pleased to see how proudly he wore it next to all of [...]

Anarchy…who are we kidding? Must be Halloween. Laurel is going to be a ghost for trick-or-treating tonight, but I thought I’d give her a day costume as well. How do you like this “Smells Like Teen Spirit” cheerleader? I have now enjoyed this tshirt on both of the kids. Here’s Oscar’s first ever Halloween costume.

Thanks many of you for your warm reception to my 100th post. I’ve been tackling some of the easy stuff on my 100 things list. Since things are pretty quiet around here these days I thought I may as well give The Full Catastrophe an update: 15. Learn to cut my kids’ and husband’s hair [...]

I served as a chaperone on Oscar’s school field trip to the pumpkin patch. What can I tell you…it was fun but dusty & hot out there. The kids were like ping pong balls bouncing around all of play areas that were set-up. That’s nice because all I had to do was follow them. Here [...]

Today was super fun for Oscar & me. I had the time and energy to indulge one of his project ideas and we spent 3 hours working on it together. It all started when he wanted me to buy him some chex mix. We happened to have most of the ingredients at home and when [...]

I’m a sucker mom…oops, I meant to say soccer mom. Oscar is a member of the Teal Turtles in our local “micro” soccer league. As a Teal Turtle he’s among eight other 3-4 year olds who gear up in cleats and shin guards THREE DAYS A WEEK for games and practices. We went to opening [...]

It all started with the shin guards. Oscar is playing soccer now has to wear shin guards to practice. We sort of had to explain to him what exactly "shin guards" were and ultimately related it back to "armor for your legs" (after all, any self-respecting 3-year-old boy knows what armor is). Of course, if [...]

We’ve been taking swim lessons since May. Oscar’s gained a lot of confidence in the water and is probably on the verge of some kind of break-through. He’s been crushing on his instructor all summer and usually likes to try to impress her. He’ll have a new teacher this week, wish us luck! Laurel has [...]
